Mobile phone

1.      Why your NO contract phone accept only cash and NETS ?
Most customer pay us by cash and NETS. And we have saving on credit card commission. Therefore we return all those saving to our customers. In case customer prefer to pay by credit card then 2% will be imposed.

2.      After sales service ?
All mobile phone manufacturers included NOKIA, SAMSUNG, MOTOROLA, SONY ERICSSON.... All of them prefer to handle after sales service directly. NONE of them support exchange policy. We understand customer prefer to have 7 days exchange. However, without manufacturers support, we can't exchange with customer.

For StarHub 2yr contract mobile phone. We have special arrangement with StarHub. For NON Nokia phone, we may able to arrange exchange within 7 day in StarHub service center. But this is NOT apply to NOKIA. There is NO exchange policy for NOKIA.

Due to the NO exchange policy, we recommend all customer to test their phones before they leave our shops. We can't accept any complaint afterward. And we understand this may not be the best arrangement. We feed back to manufacturers many time but they insist all after sales service must handle by service centre. And no promises on exchange new defective mobile phone.

3.      Does your price include any trade in or must buy ?
NO unless otherwise specified! We believe long term business. Simple and straightforward price list help to reduce misunderstanding.

4.      Do you accept trade in ?

5.     Do you accept Buy in ? (i.e. Buy customer's phone without selling a new one to customer)
Yes

6.    What can I do if I lose my warranty card ?
All our new phone are under manufacturer warranty. Every phone have serial number (imei). All those numbers are recorded in manufacturer's service centre. Service centre only need to know when does customer purchase their phone. If you don't have your warranty card. Simply bring our invoice to service centre they will service you. If you need any assistant, pls call our hotline which is written in every mobile phone box

7.    If I lose my warranty card, can I request for a replacement ?
Don't worry in case you need service just bring our invoice, for details pls refer to (7). However, almost all service centre won't issue replacement warrant card.

8.    If I can't locate my purchase invoice, what can I do ?
Pls inform us the date of purchase, our outlet shall able to reprint the invoice on the next day. Since all invoice will have phone imei number . i.e. all customer's invoice all different. Therefore we may not able to print without the exact purchase date. Service will not accept invoice with different imei number.

9.    Why your invoice are computerised while some smaller shop are hand written ?
Service centre trust computer print out invoice more. Service centre need to know the date of purchase. And the phone imei number.

10 Why VISA installment plan only apply to DBS, POSB and HSBC ?
We need VISA terminal from individual bank. i.e. we need DBS terminal to accept DBS installment VISA card. We wish to have more terminal in near future

Broadband

1.      Does Dedicated Broadband work better ?

Dedicated could means direct connection.

To most consumer dedicated or not don't matter. The key factor is what is download speed ? In Singapore all Internet Service provider e.g. StarHub .... are monitoring by IDA , a government body. IDA test their service to ensure that they will meet specified service standard. IDA will fine and announce any offender.

To most consumers "quality of service" and "cost" will be more important than how does service connecting to their house. In fact most of us don't concern about how does water pipe go into our flats. Why shall we care how does Internet connected ?

2.      What is other factor controlling our download speed apart from subscribed speed ?

Hardware

We conducted a very interest test in August 05. We put 3 computers connected to home network. Network Router is connected to cable modem with MaxOnline 2000 service from StarHub. We have two pentium 3 computers and one Pentium 4 computer. All of them running Windows XP. We connect them one after another to www.download.com and download the same file. Connecting speed is just the same for all computer 2000kbps. The same route and modem among all testing computers.

The oldest pentium 3 download speed is 3KBps (24kbps).

The faster Pentium 3 download speed is 35 Kbps (280kbps).

The pentium 4 computer download speed is 250KBps (2000kbps).

This test concluded download speed are very much depend on hardware. If you have problem with your download speed, please try to borrow a good laptop from your friend. You may find out NOT connection problem. And you have very good excuse to buy a NEW PC.

Web server

When you connected to www.starhub.com.sg

. Your webpage will display faster than www.cncmobile.com. It is because my web server max. upload speed is only 0.256 Mbps. Therefore no matter how fast is your Internet connection. You can only download at 0.256 Mbps. Our server don't have enough connection speed to feed you.

MaxOnline not connected to commerical building. Therefore we can't use MOL ultimate plan. May be you want to know how much I pay for my 0.512Mbps Internet. It is $180 per month. My service provider claimed it is after discount. Now you know how lucky you are as an end user. We all wish to be connected with MOL ultimate.

Oversea website

In order to transmit data across ocean. As you know they need cable or satellite. All of them are expensive. When you connected to oversea website. Your connection will jam into the very busy international connection (cable or satellite). You have to share limited bandwidth with all other people. It will be slow down.

That's reason why download email from local email provider will be faster than oversea provider. All service provider are using local (Singapore) download speed as standard. But not oversea connection. International connection traffic is very hard to control or predict.

3. What is different between KB and Kb ? My Top download speed shall be 2000 but I never saw this number during download ?

1 KB = 8 kb ----- B is btye and b is bit.

It is something like cm and m. But unfortunately it is not 10 times but 8 times. For Internet speed, we always using kb NOT KB. When we downloading files WINDOWS will display download speed in KB. In case, your download speed around 200 KB (1600kbps). It shall be good.

4.      Why we shall subscribe MOL6000 or Ultimate 30000kbps. There is not much website can upload data to me at 6500kbps ?

Home Network device such as Wireless router are getting cheaper and cheaper. Windows XP allow users to setup their home Network with only few clicks. Family members can be connected to home Network. They share the Internet connection at the same time. MaxOnline is designed to meet your demand. Father can surf website while childrens are playing their online gaming. You can connect up to 254 PCs into a $100 router. MOL will give you the best possible Internet connection. I think 254 PCs is too much but 6 PCs or below shall be OK. If you really want to run cyber cafe at home, pls consult good network device dealers in Sim Lim square.

5.      Does StarHub MaxOnline provide dynamic IP or Static IP ?

All home use Internet are dynamic IP. MaxOnline is dynamic IP.

Dynamic IP means your IP number will be changed. It is similar to someone visit Japan and he can't use his GSM phone. He has to borrow a phone from Operator. Every time he visits Japan he may borrow phone with different number.

When computers are connected to each other, they will inform their IP number to each other. And data can be transmitted. Dynamic IP support email, web browsing, FTP, Messenger. Almost all internet users are connected with dynamic IP.

If customer want to host internet service, they need additional service from www.dyndns.org. A small program will be installed into customer's computer and it report IP to dyndns' server. If anyone looks for the customer's PC, dyndns server will inform them what the latest IP is. For setting and charges, pls refer to dyndns website. And we are not promoting nor supporting their service..
