trivia
In Singapore, we prefer to use the word "handphone" instead of calling it "mobile phone" or "cell phone". The word "handphone" is derived from the Chinese phrase "shou ji" or "shou ti dian hua" which is literally translated as handphone or hand-held phone. This term is generally accepted in Singapore as Singaporeans have a tendency to translate a Chinese word/phrase directly into English. Today, the mobile phone, a.k.a. the handphone, has become such an integral part of the daily lives of Singaporeans that Singaporeans tend to forget to bring their keys more often than their handphones.
